The story goes that the pianist with a foundation in classical music had been a gigging musician in Leeds, where he’d been at school at the University, and a particular gig introduced him to Michael League of the famed band Snarky Puppy. The meeting led to a friendship and Laurence being invited to be the piano player for the then-new group’s first album.
That should be more than enough for a story, more than a satisfactory end – but – Laurance is a dynamic and sweetly relentless pianist and keyboardist. There is always a horizon to experience. He takes music made with the keyboard and allows the traditional tethers to be let out, resulting in the music finding higher ground and air to fly like a kite finding liberty in a delicious current. The black and whites of the keyboard are the under-footing of a charmed personal piano-filled life journey.
If the piano could be inspired, Laurance is an exceptional inspirator.
