New and contemporary male jazz vocalists. That is something to get very excited about.
About Tyreek McDole here ere are some other touchdown points for excitement: he is an Obie, an Oberlin College grad, he won The Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition in 2023 and is one of a few men to have done so in some time, he is joined in that by G. Thomas Allen. McDole sounds immediately familiar and yet instantly unique. There is a recognizable palette of the many soundscape colors of the classic vocalists; his is a richness of voice, and the ownership of a song that will have your mind
wandering actively back and forth to masters who were agents of definition and inspiration.
Tyreek grabs a hold of you and demands, through the dynamic charm of his voice, that you recognize the ways he makes it all so very graciously and beautifully his own. There is sadly a void when it comes to intimately knowing who all the new male voices are; a finger wag of shame at that but start it big here with Mr. McDole and know this is what’s been missing.
