Yotam Silberstein channels the bebop and blues that forged him into a collection of long-treasured songs on his latest album Standards.
On the new recording, the New York-based guitarist is joined by an all-star lineup of tenor saxophonist George Coleman, bassist John Patitucci, and drummer Billy Hart.
The eight song selections on Standards include music by Miles Davis, Rodger and Hammerstein, Victor Young, Tommy Flanagan, George Coleman, and more.

Standards is Silberstein’s eighth album as a leader. It follows 2022’s Universos.
As Silberstein explains, most of his recordings — like 2019’s Future Memories, 2016’s The Village, and 2009’s Next Page — have consisted of original music. However, this time he wanted to showcase his tremendous respect for the tradition of Black American music and his collegial relationship with several jazz heavyweights.
“A lot of my work here in New York in the last 20 years has been with some of the jazz masters,” Silberstein says. “So, I wanted to, first of all, play standards, because I had never had a chance to record an album of standards. And also, to do it with the real guys, you know? The heroes.”
Here’s the track listing:
- Serenata
- Beija Flor
- Lo-Joe
- If I Loved You
- Eclypso
- Never Let Me Go
- Little Willie Leaps
- Stella By Starlight
Yotam Silberstein’s Standards is out Feb. 23, 2024, on Jojo Records.
