3x Canadian Folk Music Award winners and Billboard charting Sultans of String are serving up a zoom celebration of their new release, REFUGE!!

Folks can tune in on Fri. Nov 27 at 8:00pm EDT / 5:00 PST / 7:00pm CT
$10 – tickets available at

This is a multimedia Livestream with the band celebrating their amazing collaborators with live performances, very special guest appearances, spoken word, video exclusives and conversations with Tamar Ilana, Donné Roberts, Amir Amiri, Dr. Duke Redbird, Ahmed Moneka, Ifrah Mansour, Robi Botos, Selcuk Suna, Béla Fleck (and more TBA).

For this release, the band set out to raise awareness of the nearly 26 million+ refugees currently stateless and away from their homes in a project centred around the positive contributions of new immigrants, refugees, and Indigenous peoples. The result was REFUGE – whose title track just won Folk Music Ontario’s Songs From The Heart Award (Instrumental category). It is also part of the band’s campaign to raise funds for the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Canada).

The show will last about an hour, including a talk back portion, so bring your burning questions, as they will be opening up the floor for anyone who has always wanted to ask Chris McKhool (violin), or Kevin Laliberté (guitar), or Drew Birston (bass) about their inspiration, or music, or whatever strikes your fancy.

“Refuge is a fantastic, moving, dreamlike, epic, timely album.”
– Ken Micallef (Jazz Times, Stereophile, Downbeat)

Here are a few videos. Perhaps you would like to feature one in a post?

— Refuge (featuring Edmar Castaneda)

— The Grand Bazaar (featuring Béla Fleck & Robi Botos)

— The Power of the Land (feat. Duke Redbird and Twin Flames)

It’s the perfect antidote to the Covid-19 blues!

“The show was amazing. Sound was top-notch, and I would know since I’ve been subjected to online classes for a while now. Overall great experience”

“It was great to have live music come right to our homes. The band played amazing music! The sound quality was wonderful. Hope to hear more live music from Sultans of String, soon.”

3x CFMA winners and 3x JUNO nominees Sultans of String create “energetic and exciting music from a band with talent to burn!” according to UK’s Maverick Magazine. Thrilling their audiences with their genre-hopping passport of Celtic reels, flamenco, gypsy-jazz, Arabic, Cuban and South Asian rhythms, the group celebrates musical fusion and human creativity with warmth and virtuosity. Fiery violin dances with rumba-flamenco guitar, while bass and percussion lay down unstoppable grooves. Acoustic strings meet electronic wizardry to create layers and depth of sound, while world rhythms excite audiences to their feet with an irresistible need to dance.
