Vocalist Lizz Wright mixes originals and old favourites with a large cast of talented musicians on her latest album Shadow.

For her debut studio recording on her label Blues & Greens Records, Wright showcases five original songs along with interpretations of songs by Cole Porter, Toshi Reagon, Sandy Denny, Candi Staton, and more.

Shadow is Wright’s eighth album, following previous releases with Verve, Universal, and Concord.

The album was recorded in Chicago with engineer Ryan Freeland and producer Chris Bruce. Wright’s performers and collaborators on the recording include Adam Levy, Lynne Earls, Justin Hicks, Morley Kamen, Jack DeBoe, Ben Zwerin, Kenny Banks Sr., Glenn Patscha, Deantoni Parks, and Rashaan Carter. Featured contributions also include singer Angelique Kidjo, bassist Meshell Ndegeocello, harpist Brandee Younger, violinists Trina Basu and Arun Ramamurthy, and Chicago-based string players.
