Take Off, Eh! Stars come out for The Second City

Toronto comedy fans have a lot to cheer about this week. The JFL42 Comedy Festival recently revealed its star-studded lineup, and in a total surprise move, the team at The Second City have announced one of the most anticipated reunions in the company’s history.

SCTV alum Dave Thomas is spearheading the July 18th event that will take place on The Second City Toronto Mainstage. At the heart of the show will be the unlikely return of the beloved and ultra-Canadian characters, Bob and Doug McKenzie, portrayed by Thomas and his long-time comedy partner Rick Moranis.

The McKenzie Brother reunion is particularly shocking due to Moranis’ well known, and lengthy, retirement from screen and stage. The duo will be joined by a who’s who of Canadian comedy royalty including Second City favorites like Dan Aykroyd, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy and Joe Flaherty. Martin Short is set to host the event and will also reprise his hilarious character, Jiminy Glick; the crass and rotund celebrity interviewer. On top of that, members of The Kids in the Hall will be on hand to lend a laugh.

Musically, the night will feature Saturday Night Live and Late Night with David Letterman musical director, Paul Shaffer. He will be joined by musicians Ian Thomas and Murray McLauchlan.

The event has been put together to support a good cause. Last January, Jake Thomas, nephew of Dave Thomas and son of Ian Thomas, sustained a complete spinal cord injury while snowmobiling, which has left him paralyzed from the waist down. Funds raised at ‘TAKE OFF, EH!’ will go directly to Jake Thomas and his family, as well as to ‘Spinal Cord Injury Ontario’.

VIP tickets are available now at http://www.secondcity.com/takeoff or through the box office, 416-343-0011.
