Samara Joy shares new holiday single Warm in December

Just days after being nominated for two Grammy Awards, rising-star vocalist Samara Joy has released her new version of the holiday song Warm in December.

The song was originally written by Bob Russell and was recorded by Julie London in 1956.

Joy’s recording features pianist Sullivan Fortner, double bassist David Wong and drummer Kenny Washington.

The new single comes less than two months after the release of Joy’s latest album Linger Awhile. Her debut for Verve Records was nominated for the Grammy Award for best jazz vocal album, and the singer is also nominated for best new artist. Linger Awhile found Joy updating beloved songs with a modern twist, including classics by George Gershwin, Thelonious Monk, Fats Navarro and more.

The 22-year-old singer had already earned critical acclaim from The New York Times and NPR while making fans out of Anita Baker, Regina King, LaKeith Stanfield and many others. The Bronx native was the 2019 winner of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.
