Pre-Release Screening: What is Classic Rock?

Pre-Release Screening: What is Classic Rock?
Date: Friday, October 6th
Theatre: TIFF Bell Lightbox, Cinema #1

Classic Rock is unquestionably one of the most popular styles of music in the world, touching the lives of generations of people.
Yet, ironically, no one knows exactly what classic rock is.

A Daniel Sarkissian film, the documentary What is Classic Rock? can be seen in the pre-release screening at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Friday, October 6th before it’s release on December 5th.
Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple – there are certain artists that everyone can agree fit the classic rock bill, but where does it begin, and where does it end? For some, classic rock constitutes music released during a specific period of time, for others it’s a genre, and for more even still, it’s just a marketing term.

As a life long classic rocker, the irony that a style of music as popular as classic rock has no concrete definition, is both fascinating &
inexplicable to Daniel Sarkissian. Thus, he has taken it upon himself to travel the world in search of an answer: How do you define Classic Rock? With no film crew & no funding, just him, his passion for the music and a burning desire to answer this age-old question. In the quest to define Classic Rock, Sarkissian interviews a number of people in the music and media industry, including JAZZ.FM91’s very own, John Devenish, Danny Marks and Brad Barker.
