The TD Toronto Jazz Festival has announced saxophonist and flutist Jane Bunnett and vocalist Molly Johnson will perform as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations this summer at Nathan Phillips Square, June 30th.
Known as one of Canada’s greatest voices, JUNO-award-winning singer-songwriter and artist Molly Johnson has had a prolific career spanning more than three decades. Her luscious interpretations of jazz and blue standards speak to an emotional depth that few vocalists in any genre have ever reached. As a highly respected philanthropist, Johnson is dedicated supporting communities in need and had raised millions of dollars with her own Kumbaya Foundation and several other charitable organizations. In 2008, Johnson was named an Officer of the Order of Canada for her contributions to Canadian music, as well as her charity work.
Jane Bunnett has turned her bands and recordings into showcases for the finest musical talent from Canada, U.S. and Cuba. An internationally acclaimed musician, Bunnett is known for her creative integrity, improvisational daring and courageous artistry. Her exploration of Afro-Cuban melodies expresses the universal appeal of music. 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Bunnett’s Spirits of Havana, the landmark album that brought together North American and Cuban musicians in Havana.
The festival runs from June 24 to July 3, 2016.
