Congratulations are in order for Kellylee Evans. The beloved vocalist received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from her alma mater Carleton University during their morning convocation ceremony on June 10.
According to Carleton’s official website, Evans was selected “in recognition of her distinguished career as a Canadian singer-songwriter, in addition to overcoming great personal adversity along the way.” Evans attended Carleton University from 1993-2000 obtaining two Bachelor Degrees in Law and English Literature and a Masters degree in Law. Since 1954, Carleton University has been awarding Honorary degrees to exceptional individuals “whose achievements and meaningful messages serve as inspiration for our graduating students.”
Thank you to the Carleton community for their love and support since I first left home to come to school in 1992.” says Evans in an Instagram post. “This university was the birthplace of so much for me. It’s where I first fell in love with jazz and philosophy. It’s where I met future collaborators. Where I’ve taught and mentored. Where I’ve been loved and cared for. This has been a home for me.”
A JUNO award-winning vocalist, songwriter and speaker, Kellylee Evans has released nine projects that range from jazz, pop, soul and hip hop while being speaker and advocate for pain management and living with chronic pain after surviving a lightning strike in 2013.
