JAZZ.FM91 Seminar Big Band

JAZZ.FM91 Seminar Big Band, 2017-18

For Students

The JAZZ.FM91 Seminar Big Band was formed in 2016 to create an additional opportunity for young musicians interested in developing their big band performance skills. Each week students meet at the JAZZ.FM91 studio in Liberty Village and work on: interpreting swing rhythms, section playing, sight reading and many other ensemble skills. Over the course of the year the students will explore different genres of the jazz idiom including: swing, latin, rock-fusion and ballads and will play several concerts throughout Toronto at venues such as The Pilot and Lula Lounge. Auditions for both the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band and Seminar Band occur in early September at JAZZ.FM91, in Liberty Village, Toronto. Please check jazz.fm for details.

For Teachers

JAZZ.FM91 Seminar Big Band rehearsals are open to teachers free of charge. Please register in advance to book a spot at dwall@jazz.fm. Materials will be provided for teachers to take home including: set up, suggested big band warm up, repertoire lists and many new rehearsal practices. Teachers will discover along with the students approaches to swing, latin, rock/fusion and ballad playing.
