Calling All Guitarists

Resonance Records is looking for the next big jazz guitarist by launching the Wes Montgomery Jazz Guitar Contest.

Opening on April 15th, the contest will be open to guitarists aged 14-33 from across the globe. Contestants will submit audio and video of their playing to the contests website with the whole thing culminating in a concert at Merkin Concert Hall in New York on October 10.

Judges for the contest are guitarist Pat Martino, journalist Bill Milkowski, Montgomery’s son Robert, Resonance Records founder George Klabin, producer/historian Todd Barkan and WBGO music director Gary Walker.

In a press release Klabin spoke to the legacy left by Montgomery and how it ties in to the contest.

“The Wes Montgomery Jazz Guitar Contest is of course named for perhaps the most important and influential guitarist in jazz history, and this contest will celebrate the young talent that shares our passion for this beautiful and important musical genre.”

Submissions will be handled through the website, with the contest page going live April 15th.
