A previously unheard recording of the Oscar Peterson Trio performing live in Switzerland is being released for the first time.
Titled Con Alma, the six-song set finds Oscar Peterson with his classic trio of bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen during their creative peak in 1964. It was recorded at Teatro Apollo in Lugano, Switzerland, on May 26, 1964.
The new album will be released on vinyl, CD and digital formats, including a special vinyl edition for Record Store Day’s Black Friday.
It’s the latest archival recording of Oscar Peterson to be shared recently by Mack Avenue Records, following the 2021 release of A Time for Love: The Oscar Peterson Quartet – Live in Helsinki, 1987.
Here’s the track listing:
- Waltz for Debby
- My One and Only Love
- Blues for My Landlady
- Con Alma
- I Could Write a Book
- It Ain’t Necessarily So
Con Alma: The Oscar Peterson Trio – Live in Lugano, 1964 is out Nov. 24, 2023, on Mack Avenue Records.
