Ernesto Cervini’s Turboprop has just shared a spirited, swinging version of “Little Drummer Boy” in time for this holiday season.
The Juno Award-winning group recorded the song in December of 2022 during the sessions for their upcoming album A Canadian Songbook, set to be released in March of 2024.
“I’m a sucker for holiday music, so whenever I take Turboprop into the studio, we try and lay down a couple of holiday tracks,” says Cervini.
Listen to “Little Drummer Boy”:
Led by Canadian drummer Ernesto Cervini, Turboprop has been creating waves in the modern jazz scene with their smart arrangements and incredible improvisational talents over the last decade. The band features Cervini’s regular quartet of tenor saxophonist Joel Frahm, pianist Adrean Farrugia, and bassist Dan Loomis, plus alto saxophonist Tara Davidson and trombonist William Carn.
Turboprop has released three albums. Their sophomore album Rev was nominated for the 2018 Juno Award for jazz album of the year (group). They then went on to win that award in 2020 for third album Abundance.
