Ale Nuñez has announced the release of her debut album, Blue Room, out on August 28 on Cellar Live. The upcoming album from the JUNO-nominated vocalist and Discover Women in Jazz alum is a collection of carefully selected songs from The Great American Songbook, speaking on themes of love, longing, companionship and desire. The album title, which also serves as the title track, is inspired by the classic standard, “Blue Room”, written by Rodgers and Hart back in 1926 from their musical The Girl Friend.
Executive produced by Canadian jazz impressario and Cellar Music Group founder of Cellar Music Group Cory Weeds, Blue Room features Nuñez performing alongside Canadian jazz greats, bassist Neil Swainson and guitarist Peter Bernstein.
“I knew that Peter Bernstein and Neil Swainson were the right musicians for this project because of their experience and mastery, but specifically because of their individual and complementary voices,” she says. “They are both generous as accompanists and as people, I feel very lucky to have made this with them.” The trio first performed together last December at a gig in Vancouver and the next day, they went into the studio and recorded all 13 tracks.
“I wanted this to be a true trio album, leaving space for each musician to equally contribute to the story telling and conversation,” says Nuñez. “What I loved most about making this record is that you can hear the spontaneity of the music, it feels like an intimate live performance. There’s a beauty to this spirited way of playing, a refreshing and raw authenticity.”
Nuñez has established herself as one of Canada’s most exciting emerging vocalists. Her debut EP, Under the Lemon Tree, was nominated for Best Vocal Jazz Album at the 2026 JUNO Awards. She will be embarking on a Masters of Jazz Voice degree at New York City’s The Julliard School, becoming the first Canadian vocalist accepted into the program.
“The Blue Room is for sweethearts,” Nuñez emphasized, “A place where simple life is glamourous and love is all you need.”
Blue Room is preceded by the singles, “I’m Just A Lucky So-And-So” and “There’s A Small Hotel.”
