Ale Nuñez has announced the release of the first single off her upcoming debut album, a beautiful swinging rendition of “I’m Just A Lucky So and So.”
“Duke Ellington’s “lucky so and so” is one of my absolute favourite songs,” says Nuñez, “I’m grateful to have recorded it, I’m so excited to share it with you all.”
Executive produced by Canadian jazz impressario, saxophonist and founder of Cellar Music Group Cory Weeds, “I’m Just A Lucky So and So” features Nuñez performing alongside Canadian jazz greats, bassist Neil Swainson and guitarist Peter Bernstein.
“I knew that Peter Bernstein and Neil Swainson were the right musicians for this project because of their experience and mastery, but specifically because of their individual and complementary voices,” she says. “They are both generous as accompanists and as people, I feel very lucky to have made this with them.”
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree from Humber College, Ale Nuñez has established herself as one of the emerging in-demand session vocalists in the world of Canadian Jazz. Her debut EP, Under the Lemon Tree, was nominated for Best Vocal Jazz Album at the 2026 JUNO Awards. This fall, she will be embarking on a Masters of Jazz Voice degree at New York City’s The Julliard School, becoming the first Canadian vocalist accepted into the program.
