Now Playing:

The Artistry Of ... Horace Silver

This week's Artistry of...   Features Earl Klugh

Swinging melody. Cool, simple and memorable melody. It’s a really easy equation. Horace Silver is the sum total. He composed music everyone wants to play. Music everyone wants to hear. Music that's infectious and inviting. It’s no surprise that so much of his work is based in blues and gospel even when infused with different cultural influences. Roots and soul; it’s just so much about the origins of soul in soul music. Add bop and it’s another simple equation. Music for the people – these are Silver’s own words, “Musical composition should bring happiness and joy to people and make them forget their troubles.”.
