Today's Brush with Greatness comes from listener TJ Kennedy:

"My brush with greatness happened in 1996 when I was 16. I had  been playing trumpet since 1992, and I went to my high school music teacher Daniel Stephens - who had a huge impact in my life - to ask who he thought the best current trumpeter in the world was.

He said without hesitation 'Wynton Marsalis.'

Later that day, after school, I went home, and turned on the TV as background noise for homework I had to do. As I flipped through the channels, I noticed a jazz group playing on one of the channels, and it happened to be Wynton Marsalis in the middle of a solo.

I was immediately transfixed. And that was it - the fateful day I fell in love with jazz.

Mr Stephens taught me at Waterdown District High School from 1995-1999. My passion and love for jazz is because of him."
