Paying tribute to the legend and legacy of Tony Bennett

Today is Tony Bennett's 91st birthday. Born in 1926 he has spent over half a century performing for his fans. Among the many accolades in his full career, his most recent is one of his most impressive. "Duets II which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it his first No. 1 album and making Bennett the oldest living musician to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200" Wikipedia. In addition the Librarian of Congress recently named Tony Bennett the next recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song

Bennett still feels compelled to jet around the globe and tour extensively. All this in his 90's while showing no signs of slowing down. So why does he still perform when he really has nothing left to prove?

"I like to make people feel good," says Bennett today. "I've always liked that. I still enjoy doing that. I feel that it's a gift to be alive, and I just try to communicate that to the audience, that they should all feel very good about their lives."

What's Mr. Bennett doing for his 91st birthday? Hopefully taking a well deserved rest and spending time with family. What we do know is - the day after he turns 91 Mr. Bennett will be right back at it, taking the stage at Ravinia Festiva in Chicagol. Doing what he does best. Happy Birthday Mr. Bennett. Thank you for sharing your talent.

Last year Tony Bennett put on a spectacular performance at the Liberty Grand for “An Evening with Tony Bennett” in support of JAZZ.FM91. The money raised at the event went to JAZZ.FM91’s Musician’s Benevolent Fund, which helps to support musicians and their families while they are going through financial hardship. A portion of the funds also went to JAZZ.FM91’s Music Education Program.
