This Sunday from 8-9am, it’s a special International Jazz Day Edition of Arts Toronto with your host Mark Wigmore on Jazz FM 91

This episode:

It’s the sixth annual International Jazz Day, and this year’s host city is Havana, Cuba. Mark Wigmore sits down with Jane Bunnett and her Maqueque bandmate, Cuban musician Danae Olano for a candid conversation about the Cuban jazz scene, why the city is ready for a worldwide musical spotlight, and her hopes for the future of jazz music.

And one of the most talked about Jazz musicians in this country is the ubiquitous Robi Botos. The Juno Award winner sits down with Garvia Bailey for a conversation on his stellar new electro jazz recording, and the impact of pop legend, Prince.

And International Jazz Day celebrations continue thanks to Italian pianist Vittorio Mezza. Mark Wigmore speaks to the talented musician from his home in Rome ahead of his Toronto performances at the Jazz Bistro on Tuesday May 2nd. Vittorio wraps up this year’s Sounds of Italy Piano Series.

All that, Grammy winner Larnell Lewis performs as part of Brad Barker’s “One Mic, One Chair”, and beautiful music for an International Jazz Day Sunday morning.
