ARTS TORONTO - APRIL 9TH EDITION

This Sunday from 8-9am, it’s Arts Toronto with your host Mark Wigmore on JAZZ.FM91.

    This episode:
In 1972, Jazz Legend Lee Morgan was tragically gunned down in a New York nightclub by the hand of his wife, Helen. Thanks to the new documentary “I Called Him Morgan”, we now know there's much more to the story than a violent crime of the heart. Mark Wigmore caught up with Swedish Director Kasper Collin during the Canadian premiere of the doc at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. They had a revealing conversation about Lee’s phenomenal jazz contribution, and his layered relationship that goes beyond the sensational headlines. The documentary screens at the Hot Docs Cinema through April 12th.
And, ahead of Jazz Lives In Canada, the annual premiere concert fundraiser offered by Jazz FM91, Arts Toronto revisits a rapid-fire conversation between host Brad Barker and Jazz Lives special guest, John Pizzarelli. John will be joined at Jazz Lives in Canada by his wife Jessica Molaskey, Robi Botos, David Clayton Thomas, Barbra Lica, Bill McBirnie, Shawne Jackson, Steven Page and many others on Wednesday April 12th at Koerner Hall.
And a play that delves into our obsession with criminal behavior. The frontman for the popular band Stars takes a break from rock and pop to examine a legendary con-man in the one man show, True Crime; on now at Streetcar Crowsnest. Torquil Campbell speaks to Mark Wigmore in the Jazz FM91 studios about his theatrical family, discovering the art of the imposter, and his role in the musical collective Broken Social Scene.

All that and beautiful jazz for a Sunday morning. Catch the show from 8-9am on Sunday or online at jazz.fm
