This Sunday from 8-9am, it’s Arts Toronto with your host Mark Wigmore on JAZZ.FM91.

This episode:

Metallica bassist and Heavy Metal superstar Robert Trujillo sits down with Senior Arts Editor Mark Wigmore for an exclusive Toronto interview, covering the latest from his 7-year mission “Jaco: The Film”. His passion project documentary tracks the life and times of legendary bass player Jaco Pastorius who gained notoriety by performing within Weather Report, alongside Joni Mitchell, and through his inventive solo career. As the film gets set to premiere in the UK and Japan, Robert tells the tale of his incredible travels with Jaco so far, what it’s like to play with super-band Metallica, and gives insight to the jazz-fusion movement of the late 1970s.

And… not everyone gets to sing for the Queen and the President of the United States so early on in their careers. But that’s exactly what happened to blues/jazz vocalist Dione Taylor. And she’s been hitting high notes ever since. She has been nominated for a Gemini, she was mentored by legendary jazz piano player Oliver Jones, and just recently, she put out “Born Free”, a spiritual, gospel-inspired album that returns her to her roots. Now, she’s working on new projects that further delve into her history. Community Arts Reporter Shirley Camia has her story.

All that and beautiful jazz for a Sunday morning. Catch the show from 8-9am on Sunday.
