Walter Venafro

Born and raised in Toronto, Walter became interested in broadcasting when he received a transistor radio for Christmas at the age of 10. During morning recess, he would go to his perfect spot to sit and listen to the various on-air hosts, up and down the dial, fascinated by the voices and music. That passion has remained strong.

Walter has worked at several radio stations around Toronto, including a stint at the legendary CFNY-FM in its ’80s heyday. He has co-produced documentaries for television and has worked as a casting agent for film and television, as a DJ at some of the city’s top clubs, and as a promotions and publicity representative for numerous award-winning Canadian musicians. Walter has also long been an in-demand voice actor who has been featured in many high-profile national and international advertising campaigns.

Walter hosted JAZZ.FM91’s Saturday afternoon show from 2004 to 2018, and returned to host again in 2019. He has been nominated for two National Jazz Awards for broadcaster of the year for his work with JAZZ.FM91.

Walter is the host of Saturday Afternoon Jazz and Sunday Drive on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 4 pm.
