Toronto-based vocalist, songwriter and bandleader Ale Nuñez has released her debut single, “Lemon Tree,” out now on all available streaming platforms. Nuñez is coming off the heels of a life-changing year so far as a recent graduate of Humber College with a Bachelors of Music degree and was one of the participants of our Discover Women in Jazz 2024 season. “I wrote this song about daydreaming, longing for an escape to an oasis in my mind,” Nuñez said in an Instagram post. “A place where troubles melt like lemon drops and time stops with the one you love. “Lemon Tree” immediately brings us to a special place, an ideal daydream, that cultivates the feeling of being in love for any generation with a sonic experience that takes you back in time.”
On Instagram, Nuñez reflected on the journey she embarked in the writing and producing of “Lemon Tree”:
I wrote this song in under 30 min in October 2020, I was just getting my footing as a songwriter at 19, and it feels very full circle to have completed this journey through recording it at 23. I’ve always believed in nurturing the ideas I had when I was a younger, more naive version of myself. A lot has changed in 4 years, but somehow this song has remained a constant, it’s been a guiding light.
Take a listen to “Lemon Tree” now.
