The First Lady Of Song Meets The Duke’s Men in a new unearthed live recording coming soon. Verve Records has announced the release of The Moment of Truth: Ella at the Coliseum by Ella Fitzgerald featuring the Duke Ellington Orchestra, recorded at the Oakland Coliseum on June 30, 1967 in Oakland, California.

The soon-to-be released live album was unearthed from the private collection of Verve Records founder Norman Granz and is described as “utter perfection, personified” by The New York Times.

Fitzgerald’s band includes trio of Jimmy Jones, Bob Cranshaw, and Sam Woodyard, while the Ellington Orchestra, featured Cat Anderson, Cootie Williams, Harry Carney, Paul Gonsalves, Jimmy Hamilton, Johnny Hodges and Russell Procope. The concert captures Fitzgerald and the Orchestra in their prime at the height of their careers.

The album is preceded by the lead single, “The Moment of Truth” which is accompanied by an animated music video directed by Sharon Liu.

The Moment of Truth: Ella at the Coliseum comes out on February 28, 2025 and is now available for pre-order.
