JABFUNG, the Toronto-based collective founded by LA-based drummer and Youth Big Band alumni Anthony Fung and bassist Julian Anderson Bowes, release their debut album, EPOCH, available now on all streaming platforms.

Since 2014, JABFUNG has performed across North America and has held a semi-annual residency at The Rex, where they have performed alongside Canadian and international acts such as Kirk MacDonald, Kelly Jefferson, George Garzone, Simon Moullier, Isaac Wilson, Andrew Marzotto and Mingjia Chen.

In 2023, Fung and Anderson-Bowes connected with JUNO-nominated Cuban Canadian musicians Luis Deniz (alto saxophone) and Rafael Zaldivar (piano) for a four-night stint at the Rex which established JABFUNG into a quartet. This new iteration of the band got into the studio last Spring to record their debut album, EPOCH.

EPOCH represents the deep connection between music and friendship through time and space. Although the four members live in different parts of the continent, every year they come together to bring music and friendship to music lovers through their live shows. The band just concluded their Canadian tour last month with stops in Montreal, Quebec City, Waterloo and Toronto for their annual residency at The Rex.

Fung and Anderson-Bowes stopped by the jazz.fm91 studios to chat with Brad Barker about the new album and their evolution. You can watch the full interview below.
