The War and Treaty has been described as an amalgamation of country, gospel, blues, and soul. The duo, consisting of husband and wife team Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, burst onto the scene in 2014 and have performed alongside the The Rolling Stones, John Legend and many more.

Their new album Plus One, released in February, is what Gumbo Kitchen host Ronnie Littlejohn describes as “the album that the world needs right now.” It’s the duo’s fifth studio album to date and the follow-up to 2023’s Lover’s Game which earned them their first GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist and Best American Roots Song. They also made history as the first Black duo to be nominated for Country Music Association Award for Vocal Duo of the Year.

They joined Ronnie  on Gumbo Kitchen last week to talk about their career, their new album  and their upcoming show in Toronto on April 1 at The Axis Club.
