Terri Lyne Carrington is back with new music, this time with her band Social Science for their new album, Trip the Night Fantastic, out on July 31 on Candid Records.
The album is the follow-up to their 2019 debut, Waiting Game, which was widely acclaimed as one of the best jazz releases of the year and nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Jazz Instrumental Album in 2020. Social Science was founded by Carrington to confront a myriad of social justice issues in response to the ever-changing socio-political landscape in the United States and across the globe.
Trip the Night Fantastic builds on the foundation started by Waiting Game by the continuing the conversation around themes of identity, sexuality, climate change, immigration, police brutality and more. It serves as a “serves as both a musical sanctuary and a call to action” in celebration of the human spirit.
The album is preceded by the singles “Autonomy Song,” “Identity Song,” “Abolition Song,” “Solidarity Song,” and “Children’s Song.”
