The Artistry of… Kat Edmonson

Kat Edmonson doesn’t sound like anyone else — and she shouldn’t.

She is as genuine and as unique as she is honest and humble. A palate of boundless colours, her vocal sound is a story’s wonderland. Any story would be happy to be told her way. There is no artificial put-on; she is a consummate professional, an artist in every definition, demanding of her craft and respectful of the music. Refreshingly unpretentious, there is a harkening to a time before, but with a realness and subtlety that gently reminds us of exactly where we are in all of our todays.

A signature cover of Brian Wilson’s song I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times seems a perfect expression of the roots of her artistry, but it is only almost enough of that because Kat is very much about these times, very much on her terms and, thankfully, very much in our todays.

The Artistry of… airs Wednesday evenings on Dinner Jazz with John Devenish.
