Originally from Powell River, B.C., Steve Carson is currently pursuing his studies in saxophone at Humber College in Toronto, under direction from Alex Dean and Kirk MacDonald. Carson is a dedicated jazz musician with a deep passion for his craft. He frequently performs as both a bandleader and sideman at various venues across Toronto. Carson has had the privilege of collaborating with some of Canada’s most esteemed jazz artists, including Phil Dwyer, Jodi Proznick, Mike Downes, Kelly Jefferson, Kelby MacNayr, and John Lee. Notably, Carson has received recognition at the provincial and national levels for his musical excellence. In his formative high school years, he was involved in numerous auditioned honour bands including the National Youth Jazz Combo, Conn-Selmer Centerstage Jazz Band and the BCMEA Provincial Honour Band. Most recently, Carson was awarded the 2023 Fraser McPherson Jazz Scholarship for the second time. For Carson, music is a lifelong pursuit, and he takes joy in sharing his love for it with others.
