JAZZ.FM91 is pleased to announce the winners of our Shine a Light contest.
Last month, we asked listeners to nominate local businesses who have gone above and beyond to support their community during the COVID-19 pandemic, and who have shown exceptional ingenuity and resilience in difficult times.
The grand prize winner is the Emmet Ray, who will benefit from a free advertising campaign on our station with a value of $10,000.
The Emmet Ray is a Toronto jazz and whisky bar located at 924 College St. Since the COVID-19 pandemic arrived locally, they’ve been hosting a dinner-and-show series by selling prepared meals that you can heat and eat while watching a special online jazz performance. For every meal, $5 goes to the performing musician of that night.
Congratulations to the Emmet Ray!
The four runner-up winners are invited for a five-minute interview on Afternoon Drive with Brad Barker the week of July 13.
- Mabel’s Fables Bookstore: This local favourite on Mount Pleasant Road in Toronto has been providing literature to local children and families with free delivery by bicycle.
- Broken Spoke Bike Program: This initiative in Port Colborne, Ont., gives away free bicycles and does bike repairs for children in need.
- All Day Goods: This Toronto condiment business sells hot sauces and kimchi. During the pandemic, the shop has been offering free sourdough bread delivery on a pay-what-you-can system. They’ve also been donating profits to Black Lives Matter and the Black Mamas Alliance.
- Stella’s Place: This community-based mental health centre serves thousands of children and young adults in our community every year. During COVID-19, they’ve moved their services online and added more staff to help meet the growing demand for mental health services.
