GRAMMY award-winning vocalist Samara Joy preps the release of Portrait, the anticipated follow-up to 2022’s Linger Awhile, marking the 24-year-old Bronx native’s fourth studio release and third with Verve Records.

Co-produced by Joy and veteran trumpeter/bandleader and multi-Grammy winner Brian Lynch, Portrait is an intimate look at the chemistry and relationship developed between Joy and her touring band. The 8-track album was recorded shortly after Joy’s global tour ended.

The album also showcases Joy’s growth not only as a vocalist but as a musical collaborator, songwriter, arranger and bandleader. “I’m often the fifth voice, the fifth horn,” Joy explains in a statement, “I hope listeners will see that I’m a musician too.”

Portrait includes new arrangements of classic jazz standards such as “Autumn Nocturne,” with Joy singing the music of artists such as Charles Mingus, Sun Ra and more. The lead single, “You Stepped Out of a Dream” is out now.

Portrait comes out October 11 via Verve Records.
