Documentary on jazz bassist Ron Carter set to premiere

A full-length documentary on bassist Ron Carter is coming this fall.

Ron Carter: Finding the Right Notes will premiere on PBS on Oct. 21.

The feature was directed by Peter Schnall, who previously directed the four-part docu-series Obama in 2020.

Schnall co-produced the film with Lucas Groth. He also served as executive producer along with Amy Moritz and John Matera.

The soundtrack features Jon Batiste, Stanley Clarke, Payton Crossley, Bill Frisell, Jimmy Greene, Russell Malone, Christian McBride, Renee Rosnes, Donald Vega and the WDR Big Band. It will be released separately in November.

The new film shares its title with Carter’s autobiography, published in 2008.

It’s currently unknown when the film will get a wider release.
