This was a show for the ages.

Drummer and composer Larnell Lewis had the crowd’s full attention with an emotionally moving performance. The sold-out concert at The Great Hall on Thursday, Jan. 9, was part of the 44th edition of the Sound of Jazz concert series by JAZZ.FM91.

Having earned a reputation for his explosive, Grammy-winning performances with Snarky Puppy and then further cementing it with his own Juno-nominated solo album In the Moment, Lewis proved that he’s a jazz performer you cannot miss.

The all-instrumental show was packed to the rafters, and earned Lewis and his band a standing ovation and an encore before they finished up and met the audience for photos and autographs. The next time you get a chance to see Larnell Lewis live in concert, you’d better be there.

Joining him on stage was pianist Jeremy Ledbetter (piano), William Sperandei (trumpet), Rob Christian (saxophone), Andrew Stewart (bass) and Elmer Ferrer (guitar).
