Owen grew up in a family that loved to listen to music. He got his first guitar when he was 12 and it coalesced well with his discovery of Led Zeppelin in that he learned all of their songs. In late high school, Owen’s love for music only grew when his friend showed him Weather Report. That’s when he fell into the rabbit hole of jazz. He listened to musical groups such as Mahavishnu’s Orchestra, Miles Davis’s sextet, Sun Ra’s Arkestra and so on, until he decided that he himself would pursue an education in music. Owen now studies jazz guitar at Mohawk College, guided by guitar virtuoso Bob Shields. It is there that he also discovered his love for classical music, more specifically of the 20th century. He wishes to study both classical and jazz and possibly to find a way to meld the two together in his future writing.
