Nick Forget is a trombonist and music major in Grade 12 at Etobicoke School of the Arts. This is Nick’s eighth year playing trombone and fourth year in the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band. He has previously played with the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra, the Conn-Selmer Centrestage Jazz Band at MusicFest Canada, and the Clark Terry Big Band (directed by Chris Crenshaw) at the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra’s Summer Jazz Academy. He currently plays in the Hannaford Youth Band, and is in three school ensembles.
Nick has had the opportunity to study with Terry Promane, David Archer, Charles Gray, Lucian Gray, Matt Jefferson, Kelsey Grant, Brian O’Kane, Vincent Gardner, Chris Crenshaw, and Ron Westray. This year, Nick looks forward to continuing to play music with people who are as passionate about it as he is. Nick also looks forward to playing for more guest clinicians and receiving their input.
In addition to playing music, Nick enjoys watching live performances. He’s recently seen Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and lots of local bands including the Heavyweights Brass Band and the U of T Jazz Orchestra.
This is Nick’s last year with the YBB and he’d like to thank Jules Estrin and JAZZ.FM91 for this great opportunity. He has enjoyed meeting and performing with his bandmates, and is excited to continue playing with them after high school – and looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
