Mylz Powell is a passionate and talented third-year student at York University, specializing in jazz trumpet performance. Inspired by the likes of Miles Davis and Clifford Brown from a young age, he has been under the guidance of respected mentors such as Kevin Turcotte, Ron Westray, and Andrew McAnsh. Excelling in jazz, classical, and R&B genres, Powell has performed and led his own ensemble at renowned venues and jazz festivals, including the Brampton Jazz Festival, Reid’s Distillery, and Annette Studios. Powell is also a sought-after sideman for various ensembles, including the Metropolitan Winds of Toronto and the University of Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra. He’s also dedicated to musical outreach, collaborating with schools and workshops. Mylz Powell’s unwavering passion for the trumpet and commitment to musical excellence has made him a standout presence in York University’s music community. His future goals include releasing an EP of original compositions and competing in his university’s classical concerto competition.
