The Montreal Jazz Festival is planning to return with live concerts next month, with a lineup that includes Daniel Lanois, Charlotte Day Wilson, Basia Bulat and more to be announced.

Ranee Lee, the Francois Bourassa Quartet, MISC, Shay Lia, BEYRIES and Steve Hill & The Devil Horns are also among the first slate of artists announced to be participating, with dates and more performers to be added Aug. 31.

The 41st edition of the festival is set to take place Sept. 15 to 19 on two large outdoor stages in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles, off St. Catherine Street near the Place des Arts.

Festival organizers noted that the concerts will be held in accordance with public-health guidelines to ensure the safety of artists, attendees and employees.

The festival normally takes place over two weeks in July. The 2020 edition took place virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while this year’s has been truncated to five days and only two stages instead of the festival’s usual takeover of downtown Montreal.

Meanwhile, the festival already has plans for concerts in 2022 including Gregory Porter, Dominique Fils-Aimé, Marcus Miller, Bebel Gilberto, Christian McBride, GoGo Penguin, the Avishai Cohen Trio, Sons of Kemet and more.
