As a recipient of the Dave Stillwell Arranging Award, Mason Victoria has been described as “…. an emerging writer with a solid grasp of the craft of composition and a story to tell …” (Scott Reeves, Director of Scott Reeves Jazz Orchestra). Through his studies in trumpet performance at Humber College, Mason found his passion in writing for large ensemble, which led to his creation of the Sonuskapos Jazz Orchestra (SSJO), a 20-piece contemporary jazz ensemble featuring all-original compositions and arrangements. The SSJO is currently in their process of mixing their first album entitled “Imagine We’re Sailing.”
Aside from writing for the SSJO, Mason has composed and arranged for many jazz and pop groups such as ART // THE BIG BAND, Shaw Street Collective, The New Music Jazz Orchestra (New York), the UNIVOX Choir, Masini McDermot’s One Night Only, James Valdez & The Neovintage, Dennis Kwok’s 10tet, and ensembles at Humber College and Los Angeles College of Music. Mason has had his original piece :Willow Trees” performed by the Toronto Jazz Orchestra at the age of 19. Mason is also an artistic associate for Spectrum Music, a collective of Canadian composer who create and present genre-defying new music based on unique concert themes.
