Marton Pandy is a trumpeter in the JAZZFM.91 Youth Big Band. A grade 12 student at Earl Haig Secondary School in the Claude Watson Music Program, this is Marton’s fourth year in the Youth Big Band. Not only does he play the trumpet, but also plays the drums in his church band.

Marton has been playing trumpet since grade six, and has studied with Norman Engel since he began playing. Marton plays in numerous bands at Earl Haig S.S. including the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Band. He is really looking forward to all of the JAZZ.FM91 Youth Big Band concerts this season and the challenge that comes along with all the difficult charts the YBB plays. He hopes that his improvisation skills will improve, and he will continue being an all around stronger trumpet player under the YBB’s lead trumpeter Leo Silva.

Marton’s biggest musical inspiration is Dizzy Gillespie as he loves his unique techniques and sounds. Outside of music, Marton plays competitive hockey as a goaltender, competitive golf as well as many other sports recreationally at and outside of school. Next school year, Marton hopes to pursue an engineering degree while keeping up music and sports.
