The Singers 2: Class 2 of 4
April 10, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Peggy Lee & Shirley Horn: “Cool & Mellow”
The second class will examine the lives and work of these two ultra-cool ladies of song. Renaissance woman Peggy Lee was a successful actor, composer and poet as well as one of the most popular singers in the history of jazz. Shirley Horn, one of the few female jazz vocalists of her day who was also an accomplished instrumentalist, was known for her smoky contralto voice and devastating way with a ballad.
This four part course, led by singer and JAZZ.FM91 on-air host Heather Bambrick, will continue where The Singers part 1 left off, profiling another list of quintessential jazz singers. Each two-hour class will feature an in-depth look into the life and work of the genre’s most influential vocalists, exploring their biographies, influences, importance, and continued legacies.
Note: This course is open to everyone, including those who missed The Singers Part 1!
Teaching the course will be JAZZ.FM91 on-air host and JUNO-nominated singer Heather Bambrick. Her deep knowledge and warm, good-humoured discussion style will leave students informed, inspired, and entertained as she leads them through this examination of Jazz singing at its best!
Taking place at JAZZ.FM91 in Liberty Village, this four-session, evening course will meet for two hours weekly. JAZZ.FM91 donors are offered discounted fees.
