They are celebrated groundbreakers, remarkable heroes and one-of-a-kind renegades. The Canadian Icons Project celebrates our generation’s most inspiring originals – artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, politicians, community leaders and athletes – who have transformed the Canadian experience, at home and abroad, over the past 50 years. This groundbreaking, multi-media exhibit features a curated selection of 30 profiles from this ongoing project that now includes over 125 profiles of legendary Canadians.
Conceived and produced by renowned photographer and documentary filmmaker Don Dixon, the Icons Project is a decade-long process of intimate portraiture and interviews documenting the stories and passions of Canadian luminaries from all walks of life. Dixon’s up-close-and-personal profiles bring their stories to light in powerful, unexpected ways. Each profile features short essays and video footage of deeply personal reflections.
