TD Toronto Jazz Festival presents… City of Culture: Sarah Thawer

With the City of Culture initiative, Toronto Downtown Jazz is showcasing Toronto as a cultural destination and, in particular, a must-see destination for jazz lovers.
This series of eight concerts features a different artist in a different venue, performing an outstanding cross-section of jazz and jazz-related music, highlighting some of the incredible musicians whose talent is on display here in Toronto every day throughout the year — and on stage at the annual TD Toronto Jazz Festival, celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2022.
The series begins with Sarah Thawer performing at The Rex in the Queen West neighbourhood on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., broadcasting on the air on JAZZ.FM91 and on Facebook.
Sarah Thawer is a world-renowned drummer and recording artist based in Toronto. She started playing drums at age two and her first stage performance was at age five. Thawer works internationally with different artists and musicians, as well as solo and with her own band. She is known for being a versatile musician, playing a wide range of genres from jazz and fusion to Indian/world, funk, R&B and hip hop. Thawer has performed and worked with artists including Jacob Collier, Steve Vai, George Watsky, SheilaE., Jon Batiste, A.R. Rahman, Nicholas Payton, Nigel Hall, Myron McKinley, Sekou Bunch, Mark Lettieri, Tegan and Sara, Char (Hisato Takenaka) and Osman Mir.
