Danie Friesen
With a background in theatre and film, Canadian actor/soprano Danie Friesen’s range of professional experience reflects a young artist who transcends barriers.
Recent roles include Linfea (La Calisto), Ria Krauss (In Adagio), Leonato (Much Ado About Nothing), Kate (Pirates of Penzance), Charmian (Antony and Cleopatra), Estelle (No Exit) and Nancy (Oliver!).
As a recording artist, Danie collaborated with Flowers of Hell, recording of Symphony #1; an experimental symphony for soprano. She is also featured as the vocalist for the film documentary Yellow is Forbidden (release date 2018).
Danie has been, and continues to be, active in creating new works. In 2012, she co-founded Art & Lies Productions, an independent theatre company focused on producing stylized, physical and absurdist theatre. In her newest project, Opera Revue, she performs opera and art song in a casual bar setting; bringing this music into an unusual location and, most importantly, to a potentially new audience.
