Live to Air with the Berklee Indian Ensemble
August 8, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Catch the spirit of India’s rich musical mosaic.
JAZZ.FM91 is proud to welcome global music sensation the Berklee Indian Ensemble with a very special guest, Grammy-winning vocalist Vijay Prakash, to the Long & McQuade Performance Hall for an intimate and interactive Live to Air performance on Thursday, Aug. 8.
What started out as an academic class at Berklee College of Music in 2011 has quickly become one of the coolest new global acts to emerge from Boston. The Berklee Indian Ensemble boasts musicians and performers from around the world, blending classical, folk, Sufi and contemporary Indian music with influences from hip hop, jazz, Middle Eastern and African music to produce a whole new Indian sound. With high-profile collaborations featuring artists like A.R. Rahman, Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal and Vijay Prakash, the ensemble is in high demand, playing sold-out shows at premier venues, including the Boston Symphony Hall, and international festivals like the Bengaluru Ganesh Utsav in India.

“Berklee India Exchange is so excited to have our Berklee Indian Ensemble visit Toronto for the first time,” says Annette Philip, artistic director of the Berklee India Exchange. “One of our vocalists, Shradha Ganesh, is a Toronto native, so it’s all the more special to be able to share stories, ideas and music from our ever-evolving repertoire with music lovers in this region. Our touring ensemble features artists from 12 countries, who will present a mix of Indian classical, folk, contemporary, and Indo-jazz elements, along with our original compositions.”
The Berklee Indian Ensemble was also the driving force behind the idea of the Berklee India Exchange (BIX) at Berklee College of Music. BIX promotes the development and promotion of Indian art, music and culture through productions, residencies, tours, workshops and scholarships for students from India and beyond.
