Jazz Tribute to 1959: The Year That Changed Jazz
With music director Colleen Allen
Date: Monday, Feb. 25, 2019
1959 was arguably the most creative year in all of jazz history. Many of the contributions we now consider to be jazz classics all happened around the same time. Four of the major albums released in 1959 are Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue, Charles Mingus’s Mingus Ah Um, The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s Time Out and John Coltrane’s Giant Steps. Explore these major jazz albums and contributions from 1959 during a special Sound of Jazz evening featuring music from the year that changed jazz.
