Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper form supergroup called Dinner Party
Jazz heavyweights Kamasi Washington and Robert Glasper have joined forces with hip-hop artists Terrace Martin and 9th Wonder for a new supergroup named Dinner Party.
The group’s self-titled debut album is coming out July 10 via Sounds of Crenshaw/EMPIRE.
Until then, Dinner Party have released the first single from the project, a smooth R&B tune called Freeze Tag, one of several tracks on the album that feature Chicago vocalist Phoelix.
The group has also revealed the album cover, which was designed by artist Amani Washington, the sister of Kamasi.
It’s been a busy period for Kamasi Washington. This news comes just a month after his soundtrack for the Michelle Obama documentary Becoming, which premiered on Netflix in May.
