There’s a new generation of exciting acts in Toronto’s thriving jazz scene, and JV’s Boogaloo Squad is among the leaders of the pack.

Known for their funky, high-energy shows, the trio channels ’70s soul-jazz with flash and swagger. Their array of influences ranges from James Brown to French art films to classic TV theme songs.

JAZZ.FM91’s own Brad Barker even named their remarkable debut album Going to Market one of the top jazz records of 2019 so far.

The band put on a groovy show here at JAZZ.FM91 on Thursday, May 30. It was broadcast live for all to hear — but a small audience of donors was lucky enough to experience it firsthand.

The lineup:

  • Joel Visentin – keyboard
  • Adam Beer-Colacino – guitar
  • Jeff Halischuk – drums
  • Kelly Jefferson – saxophone
