John Nicholson

Born in Toronto but raised in Surrey, BC, John moved back to his birthplace after graduating from Capilano University’s Jazz program in 2014. In Vancouver, John was fortunate to study with Brad Turner, Steve Kaldestad, and Dave Robbins, among many others, and to frequently perform with some of the best on the scene. Since moving to Toronto, John has been leading his own bands as well as working as a side-musician, frequenting the stages of venues such as the Rex, Poetry Jazz Cafe, the Tranzac, Burdock Music Hall, and many others across the GTA, and has performed with Kelly Jefferson, Chase Sanborn, Mark Godfrey, and Max Sennit, among many others. In September of 2016, John began the Masters of Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto, and continues to compose and perform around the city.
