More than 70 musical instruments, donated by jazz.fm91 listeners, have been delivered to schools across Toronto as part of jazz.fm91 Holiday Heroes Instrument Drive.
This year, we partnered with The Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement (CEBSA) at the Toronto District School Board who assisted with choosing the local schools in need. With the support of our delivery partner Firemen Movers, deliveries were made last week to different schools across the city, including Lord Dufferin Junior and Senior Public School and Chief Dan George Public School.
“Music is crucial to life and expression and coming into one’s own so to participate in worthy cause and a worthy project, it touches me and my staff,” expressed Firemen Movers CEO Patrick Karpat who was present at the media event at Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute. “Putting music and instruments and the ability into young people’s hands is just magic.”
“The Centre is very happy to partner with jazz.fm91 on this initiative,” says Jeffrey Caton, Centrally Assigned Principal at CEBSA, “To be able to get instruments in the hands of [students], especially at a time when we know budgets can be tight, not everybody has the ability to go out and engage in music, it opens up a world of opportunities for students. It’s important for them in terms of their development to hear, play, engage with each other in ways that music provides.”
“The Holiday Heroes instrument drive is something we look forward to each year at Long & McQuade,” says Long & McQuade Store Manager Jordan Smalls. “People from across the city are huge supporters of jazz.fm and the music community in general, so this is such a great way to give back and foster the next generation of musicians.”
The 12th edition of Holiday Heroes is brought to you in partnership with The Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement, Long & McQuade Musical Instruments, Ninepoint Partners, Your Advantage and Firemen Movers, our delivery partner.
